David Abreu, Napa Valley born and bred, oversees 28 Ha, producing iconic, single vineyard wines from the Napa Valley. David’s sense of what makes a site stand out, why one vineyard makes great wine and another’s is just good, was crystallised during his youth when working in Napa’s original vineyards.
Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Howell Mountain, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. Five wines are produced, all in very small quantities; Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos, Capella and Howell Mountain are single vineyard sites, and Rothwell Hyde is a blend of all sites.
Low yields, two sortings and co-fermentation by varietal helps to explain how 100 Barrels are whittled down to only 12,000 bottles, and what makes these wines quite so unique.

The 2011 Rothwell Hyde is our first release from 2011. As vintners, while we may reflect on a particular season’s highs and lows for years to come, the success of a vintage is ultimately determined by the fruit that makes its way into our tanks. Uncompromising work in the vineyard followed by dozens of quick hands and trained eyes on the sorting line saw our tanks receive fruit of no less than impeccable quality.
A barrel selection from all four of our vineyards – Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Thorevilos and Howell Mountain – this wine is a true estate blend made with the same exacting attention to detail applied to each of our single vineyard wines.
The little 2011 Rothwell Hyde we produced speaks volumes of our team, our vineyards, and our winemaker. It reflects the season perfectly with an inspiring freshness, finesse and grace.
