On the 30th November, the date of Sir Winston Churchill’s birthday, we hosted an intimate evening celebrating a few of Churchill’s favourite things; champagne, cigars and siren suits. We partnernered with fellow Royal Warrant Holder, Turnbull & Asser, bespoke shirtmaker and clothier, and James J. Fox, purveyors of fine specialist, premium and Cuban cigars. All three brands are privileged to have been patronised by Sir Winston Churchill during his lifetime and it was an occasion to celebrate our most esteemed customer!
The evening started with a talk by Head Designer, Dean Gomilisek-Cole, who explained the fascinating history of the ‘siren suit’, a practical one-piece item of clothing originally designed by Sir Winston Churchill during the Second World War to be quickly slipped over his clothes in the event of an air raid. Paul Graham of Pol Roger Portfolio then addressed the audience and shared the story of Sir Winston Churchill’s fortuitous meeting with Odette Pol-Roger in the aftermath of the Allied Victory, when his loyalty to Champagne Pol Roger was sealed. Guests enjoyed both the Brut Vintage 2004 and 2006, a fitting tribute to Churchill who himself drank Pol Roger Vintage, and Odette would always send him 2 cases for his birthday. Finally guests were invited to the James J Fox to sample a cigar from the very shop where Churchill would select his favourite cigars.
