Champagne Pol Roger has further cemented its support for elite British sport, having signed a partnership agreement with Bath Rugby, to become the Official Champagne of the prestigious club for the 2016/17 season. The house has been a longstanding supporter of sporting competition, and is already the official Champagne of both the Festival of British Eventing 2016 at Gatcombe Park, and the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2016, and thus Bath Rugby represents a fitting extension of this ongoing support.
Founded in 1865, Bath is one of the oldest rugby union clubs in existence; located in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath, the club is steeped in vibrant history and heritage. This rich sense of tradition and history is also at the heart of Maison Pol Roger, founded just 26 years earlier in 1839; the house has been producing exceptional champagne ever since and remains, to this day, small and under family ownership.
Champagne Pol Roger and Bath Rugby share of number of core values, not least their reputation for quality. Bath Rugby boasts some of the most exciting young talent in English rugby and competes at the highest level in domestic and European rugby. Maison Pol Roger owns 91 hectares of vineyards in prime sites across the Vallée de la Marne, Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. The cellars run for 7km and the deepest, known as the ‘cave de prise de mousse’, is at 34m below street level where the temperature is 9°C or less, thus prolonging fermentation and contributing to the unmistakeable quality and style of the wines and their famously fine bubbles.
Paul Graham, Director of Business Development at Pol Roger Portfolio, says of the partnership “We are delighted to be working with Bath Rugby and Great Western Wines for the 2016/17 season, Champagne Pol Roger has long had an association with elite sporting activities and Bath Rugby remains one of the most famous and celebrated clubs in the rugby union world. We look forward to an exciting and fun packed season.”
Champagne Pol Roger will mark the beginning of their partnership at Bath Rugby’s first home game of the Aviva Premiership season, against Newcastle Falcons, held at their iconic home ground ‘The Rec’ on 10th September, by arriving in their bespoke Pol Roger Land Rover Defender.
Bath Rugby supporters will now be able watch their club play whilst enjoying a glass of Pol Roger Brut Reserve, the perfect champagne with which to enjoy such a sporting occasion. Blended from 30 still base wines from different vineyards, different vintages and the three main grape varieties which dominate the champagne region: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, it is the aperitif champagne par excellence.
