The Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park, presented by British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA), takes place from 5-7 August 2016 and is one of the highlights of the 2016 equestrian season with competitors of the highest calibre battling it out for four coveted Championship titles.  The adrenaline filled cross country course, takes centre stage during the weekend, with no better place to watch the action than the Park Bowl.  With the water complex in the valley below, Captain Mark Phillips’ famously undulating course unfolds in front of you, providing the perfect viewing spot and picnic location to enjoy a bottle of Pol Roger Brut Reserve.

Following hot on its heels is the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, widely acknowledged to be one of the World’s toughest eventing challenges, and takes place in Stamford, Lincolnshire from 1-4 September 2016, attracting more than 160,000 visitors over a four-day period.  Situated within the magnificent parkland of Burghley House, Land Rover Burghley is renowned not only as a major international sporting event, but also as one of the premier occasions in the autumn social calendar.

Pol Roger Brut Réserve is the perfect champagne with which to enjoy both sporting occasions, blended from 30 still base wines from different vineyards, different vintages and the three main grape varieties which dominate the champagne region: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.

On the nose, the champagne is dominated by white flowers, green apple, brioche and a trace of minerality. On the palate there are notes of stone fruits, certain nuttiness and a hint of honey supporting the freshness of the acidity. UK stock receives an additional 6 months post-disgorgement ageing so it is ready to drink upon release but cellaring for a few years will reveal greater depths. The aperitif champagne par excellence, but one which has sufficient backbone to be drunk with fish and even spicy dishes.
