We were delighted to support both the Mens and Womens’ Varsity Match at Twickenham on Thursday 10th December.
This year, for the first time, the Women’s Varsity Match was played at Twickenham on the same date at the Men’s match, thus marking an historic moment for the game. It proved to be a decisive victory for CUWRFC; Alice Middleton lit up Twickenham with an historic hat-trick of tries as Cambridge sealed a record win of 99 points and 17 tries without reply, against their arch rivals.
However it was a different story for the Men’s match with the dark blues claiming a record sixth win in a row at Twickenham Stadium, 12-6, over Cambridge.
Oxford were forced to come from behind after Cambridge skipper Don Stevens kicked the Light Blues ahead. But while there were no tries for the first time in 14 years of this fixture, more than 25,000 spectators were kept enthralled as the game went down to the wire.
Both winning teams were presented with a Magnum of Pol Roger Brut Reserve as were the Man and Woman of the match.
