Independent farm distillery, Kilchoman, is to release its first ever Madeira cask matured single malt. Just 17 first fill ex-Madeira barrels were selected for the limited edition release.  Filled in 2011, the Islay single malt has spent its full maturation period in the ex-Madeira wine barrels.  Only 6100 bottles of the exclusive release will be available worldwide from the 5th of October.

Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder “This release is a break from the norm for us, it represents a bit of an experiment with full maturation rather than simply finishing whisky in casks like Madeira.  Full maturation means that the impact of the cask is that much greater, the challenge is to ensure the whisky remains balanced and the influence of the Madeira cask is integrated with that of the Kilchoman spirit.”

The Madeira Cask Matured follows the release of a Port Cask Matured release in 2014 and demonstrates Kilchoman’s continued commitment to full maturation in cask types typically employed by distilleries exclusively for finishing.

The Madeira Matured is a welcome addition to the Kilchoman range which this year saw the launch of new versions of their Machir Bay, Loch Gorm and 100% Islay releases as well as the distilleries first ever seven year old 2008 Vintage single malt, the oldest whisky to be released by the farm distillery since their establishment in 2005.

The Madeira Cask Matured release is non chill-filtered and is natural colour.  Bottled at 50% ABV it will be available from specialist spirits retailers worldwide and
