Pol Roger Portfolio is delighted to announce that it will be distributing the wines of Bodegas Artadi in the UK from 1stNovember 2018.
The history of Artadi dates back to 1981 when its current owner, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, together with his family and thirteen local growers founded Artadi in the heart of Alava. United by a shared vision of viticulture best practice, based on a deep-seated respect of the vineyard, their commitment to careful cultivation allowed them to draw out the unique and individual personalities of each vineyard.
Juan Carlos’ family have a long history of vinegrowing: Juan Carlos represents the 4th generation of winemakers, now joined by his son, Carlos, the 5th generation. Today, Artadi own 65 hectares of vineyard in their original site of Álava, in Laguardia, planted in soils with wide geological diversity. These distinctive vineyard sites give singularity to their wines, allowing the character of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins to shine.
In 1996 and 1999, the same conviction was applied to two wine making regions in Spain; Artazu (Navarra) and Pinoso (Alicante ) where they own 40ha and 80ha of vineyards respectively.
At Artadi, they practice ‘respectful’ viticulture, based on organic and sustainable concepts, and stay faithful to the know-how of their ancestors. They remain loyal to the viticultural traditions of their grandparents, rallying against industrial practices and rejecting the use of fertilisers and synthetic chemicals.
Artadi’s primary focus is to produce inimitable wines; this they achieve with a respect for their rich historical heritage, a love of and deference to nature, and by championing the unique personalities of their wines.
The Artadi wines now sit alongside the outstanding range of family owned producers represented by Pol Roger Portfolio. Together with Pol Roger Champagne, the agency wine range now comprises Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Josmeyer, Robert Sinskey Vineyards, Staglin Family Vineyard, Abreu, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Gallica and Crown Estates as well as two Single Malts; Glenfarclas and Kilchoman.
James Simpson MW, Managing Director of Pol Roger Portfolio commented ‘We, at Pol Roger Portfolio, are thrilled to welcome the Artadi family of wines to the fold. They represent the very best of modern Spain with a perfect combination of low yielding old vineyards and indigenous grape varieties together with serious considered winemaking. Family is also key to the development of Pol Roger Portfolio; hence it is particularly pleasing to find an established family producer to join the impeccable range of family owned wine and spirits producers we already represent.’
