Blonde Warrior very nearly made the perfect start to the new week when coming smoothly through from the back and then running green and going down very narrowly in what looked a hot Newbury Maiden.
Saturday started with a pleasant surprise victory for Never Back Down who won the Listed Carnarvon Stakes at 25-1 under Silvester de Souza. That’s twenty winners up already for the new season. Dukhan ran a good race finishing fifth in the super competitive London Gold Cup. Later Almufti made an eye-catching debut for his owners Al Shaqab who sponsored the whole card. Travelling strongly, if a bit free, he ran green and was short of room before fading late on. He should do a lot better.
Monday saw Fajjaj, a very inexperienced son of Dawn Approach, finish a very honourable second in the German 2000 Guineas in Cologne. For a colt having only his fourth race this was a very pleasing effort.
Back on home turf Arbalet was a smooth (and expected at 4/7Fav) winner at Carlisle under Josephine Gordon.
Looking forward, the entries for a number of early-closing races at Royal Ascot have been published. Amongst the notable entries from Kremlin Cottage are for Unforgetable Filly, Stage Name, Mootasadir and Gifted Master who is in everything!
