Yesterday saw the launch of the 2000 vintage Pol Roger at the newly re-furbished Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. A distinguished audience of wine merchants and journalists tatsed some 15 vintages of Pol Roger champagne from 2000 back to 1900 accompanied by a stunning luncheon conceived by Helene Darroze. The wines were shown in four flights each accompanied by a carefully selected dish followed by cheese served with Joseph Drouhin's Beaune Clos des Mouches 1990 (also available from Pol Roger Portfolio). Our thanks to Mark Jenner of the Connaught's Coburg Bar who made it all possible and to Lionel Nierop and Hannu Leinonen who provided many of the older vintages. The Coburg Bar has a dedicated Pol Roger page in the list and, also from the Pol Roger Portfolio, a Hine Cognac page, both with vintages back to 1914.
