Cornell Vineyards

About Cornell Vineyards

Amid the rugged terrain of the Mayacamas range, on the western flank of Spring Mountain on the Sonoma County side, lies Cornell Vineyards. Cultivated by winemakers since approximately 1850 until the prohibition era, the site had lied fallow for near 80 years before Henry Cornell purchased the 46.5ha parcel in 2000.

After over a decade of experimentation, planting and zeroing in on their distinct Sonoma style, Henry and Vanessa Cornell released their first commercial wines in 2013. Certified CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) in 2014, they are commited to organic standards that promote and enhance the natural footprint of the land.

The estate has vast geological diversity coming from ancient sea beds and volcanoes with sandstone, shale, cobblestones, loamy clay, and volcanic rock. Consequently, it is divided into 20 vineyards blocks according to soil type and blends of this are decided each year. All five Bordeaux grape varietals are present in the vineyard, to maximise blending potential. These are elegant, fruity and powerful wines, that are a true expression of their unique origin.
