On June 13th, The Glenfarclas 105 Cocktail Competition came to a close, as the 6 finalists from across the UK competed in a whisky cocktail showdown at the Scottish Malt Whisky Society in Glasgow. The competitors were asked to create a signature cocktail and one inspired by the theme ‘Year of Stories’, using a measure of the iconic Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength whisky.

Marcus Gordon from Aberdeen was eventually crowned the winner, impressing with his whisky knowledge and mixology skill. Gordon’s two cocktails, “High Flyer’s Highball” and “A Pal’s Dram” wowed the judges and earned him the top spot in a tightly contested final. Each competitor was judged on their knowledge of the brand, ingredients and presentation skill, as well as cocktail-making techniques, and the flavour, balance and appearance of the drinks.

The judging panel consisted of Kirstin MacDonald, Glenfarclas brand ambassador, Louise Gallagher, business development manager at Pol Roger Portfolio, Nicola Carruthers, deputy editor at The Spirits Business, Peter Donnelly, director at Pol Roger Portfolio, and Dan Jones, assistant bar manager at Klosterhaus in Bristol and last year’s winner of the Glenfarclas 105 Cocktail Competition.

Gordon’s prize is an invitation to the Glenfarclas distillery for a three-day experience, as well as a bespoke decanter, one-of-a-kind, filled with Glenfarclas 105.
