The launch of the new gift box took place at Chartwell, Churchill’s beloved home, where Laurent d’Harcourt, President of Champagne Pol Roger, and Tess Costil, the Designer, presented Randolph Churchill, great grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, with the first Magnum gift box.
Whilst many regard Sir Winston Churchill as one of the greatest statesmen of the twentieth century, few know that he was an avid oil and watercolour painter, whose works were exhibited widely and, most prestigiously, at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Churchill described his enthusiasm for painting as taking a ‘joyride in a paint box’; having discovered the joy of painting at the age of 40, he remained a prolific and dedicated artist for the rest of his life. Tess’s design is based on one of his most famous paintings, ‘The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell’. Chartwell was Churchill’s beloved home and favourite place to paint, no more so than by the meditative goldfish pool.
