A week with very few runners but with most “filling the frame”.
The second half of the Newmarket July Meeting saw the debut run of East of Eden. The daughter of Exceed and Excel made a hugely encouraging start to her career under Ryan Moore. Held up early and taking a strong hold, the filly made good progress to be right in the mix one furlong out. She was a bit short of room but ran on really well to finish a good third in what was almost certainly a good maiden race (as they tend to be at this meeting).
At the same meeting Power of States outran his 20-1 starting price in finishing third in the Maritime Cargo Handicap.
After a slightly disappointing run at Royal Ascot Coase bounced back to finish a close second at Chester whilst carrying a 6lb penalty for a previous victory.
On Wednesday at Wolverhampton Hariboux made a winning debut. Always in touch under Jack Mitchell, the gelded son of Havana Gold led inside the final furlong and went three lengths clear to win comfortably for Kremlin Cottage.
Later that evening Ghaith finished third under the same jockey.
