The second day of Newmarket’s July Festival saw Kremlin Cottage represented by two horses in the ownership of V.I.Araci. First to run was his Frankel colt Dombra who finished a very respectable fifth in what is habitually a very hot maiden race.
Next up was Corrosive who was agonisingly grabbed on the line and beaten a neck having taken it up inside the final quarter mile, looking all over the winner.
The July Meeting ended on Saturday with Miss Serenity making an eye-catching debut for the stable. In a maiden race full of beautifully bred fillies, this daughter of Dark Angel was held up in the rear until making smooth progress on the bridle to join the action inside the final two furlongs until fading near the line. One to keep an eye on!
Curiosity followed up his excellent second at Royal Ascot with another sound run in a red hot handicap at Newmarket, once again finishing a clear second.
Tuesday and the stable was back on the winner trail. Morning Beauty battled on well to hold on by half a length in a 1m 5f handicap at Bath ridden by Nicola Currie claiming a valuable 3lbs. Places followed on Wednesday for I Am Magical, Take Fright and Dragon Mountain.
Thursday saw the box, carrying two 2 year olds, head for Doncaster for evening racing, very much a feature of mid-summer. Zofelle, a nicely bred first foal daughter of Zoffany, made a very impressive debut, travelling smoothly throughout and quickening up nicely to draw well clear under James Doyle. An hour later Doyle completed the double, pushing out James Street to win a shade comfortably at odds of 1-2 confirming the promise of his Newbury debut. The colt took a little time to find top gear and looked as though a step up in trip would benefit.
38 winners and 53 placed horses for the season to date.
