On Friday at Newmarket Hostess had a very promising debut under Pat Cosgrave. Apparently unfancied at 33-1 and slowly away, the filly made good progress from 2 furlongs out and stayed on well to be beaten only 2 lengths at the line. Meanwhile at Ffos Las Josephine Gordon got Pepper Street up on the line to win by ¾ length.
On Saturday Arbalet took another step forward when finishing an excellent third in York’s SkyBet City of York Stakes (Group 3). He lead 2 furlongs out and battled on well under Silvestre de Souza to be beaten 2 ½ lengths. Sadly stable favourite Gifted Master was unable to follow up his Stewards’ Cup victory in Newmarket’s Listed Hopeful Stakes.
Sunday and Monday added fourth places for Debbonair(sic) and Stand Firm before Dragon Mountain won on Wednesday evening at Kempton. Josephine Gordon gave him a terrific front running ride making nearly all, slowing the pace through the middle of the race, quickening off the turn and fighting back really well when headed inside the final furlong. The fiftieth winner of the campaign for Hugo and the team.
The final runner of the week, at Chelmsford, was another winner. Encrypted made nearly all the running to win a shade comfortably, again under Josephine Gordon – her third winner of the week for the yard.
After the excitements of the Ebor meeting this was a very quiet week for runners from Kremlin Cottage.
