A frustrating series of places to start the week for Ghayadh, Power to Exceed, Unforgettable Filly (who ran a “blinder” beaten only a length though only fourth), Summerseat Mist, Hot Team, Stage Name and Corrosive. All ran with credit without quite getting their head in front.
This continued on Saturday with a magnificent run in defeat by Arbalet who broke clear of a huge field for the valuable Gigaset International Handicap at Ascot only to be run down near home, finishing second.
The run was finally broken at Newcastle where Rashdan held on well to win under the excellent Georgia Cox.
On the subject of jockeys, Newmarket saw the welcome return to action of the stable stalwart Josephine Gordon after a long injury break. Sadly her mount Ours Puissant was unable to give her the perfect return to action though she rode a winner later on the card.
Further places followed for Collide, Dubai Landscape, Dukhan, and Breaking Records before James Street followed up his recent victory with a win at Nottingham getting up on the post by a short head under Ben Curtis. The colt showed a great attitude to prevail despite having to carry the 7lb penalty for his previous victory.
41 winners and 60 placed horses for the season to date.
