Sisters Isabelle and Celine Meyer have been at the helm of the ground-breaking Josmeyer estate since 2016 when they inherited the 25 hectares of prime Alsatian vineyard from their late father Jean. Now a fifth-generation family business, Domaine Josmeyer – incorporating the iconic slopes of AOC Grand Cru Brand and Hengst vineyard- was an early pioneer in biodynamic principles, officially recognised in 2000 but practitioners long before then.

Their wines more than validate the family conviction that “the pursuit of excellence in harmony with the earth” delivers optimal expression of both terroir and varietal character. Wines produced from the vines growing in the valley on alluvial soil are soft and voluptuous, whilst those from the calcareous and marl soils of the 360m high Hengst vineyard are rich and full-bodied, and those from the deep granite soil of the Grand Cru Brand vineyard are incisive and fine structured.

In the words of Jean Meyer, “A wine is like a pencil stroke” – and artistry is at the heart of these wines, not only in their creation but also in the hand-drawn labels that befit the domaine’s hand-crafted ethos.

Tasting Note:

Bone dry, yet full, rich and nutty in character. The flavours don’t jump out of the glass, yet run deep in this complex white. Citrus, apple and mineral are the main flavour themes, with superb cut and fine length.
